Items destined for eBay auctions - Page 4

I've been planning to auction these items on eBay, but it hasn't been a high priority. If someone asks and if I have the time to do it, I'll try to promptly put the requested items up for public (not private) auction and let you know when it starts.

Use the email address on this site's Feedback page to inquire. If you want to check my eBay Feedback ratings and comments, ask me for my eBay user name.

I will generally sell these items only on eBay. See the My eBay terms of sale page.

The description with each item (if any) is the proposed auction listing. Some are from previous auctions where the items didn't sell.

"Likely price" is what I expect to use as the starting bid. If you think the price is too high, you can't hurt anything by suggesting a different one.

Items with a "Likely price" of $0.99 or less are items I want to get rid of, to anyone willing to pay the shipping cost. On request, I'll bundle one or more of them with other items into an auction lot. Even after you win an auction, you can request that $0.99 items be included. Make the request at any time before you pay for the auction. If the additional items raise the shipping cost, you must pay the additional charges. That is why you must ask before you pay.

Miscellaneous Items

Forrest Titons

5 Forrest Mountaineering TITONS (sizes T3, T4, T5, 7, 8) + 1 SMC Taperlock NUT

Likely price $19.

This auction lot consists of 5 Forrest Mountaineering TITONS (sizes T3, T4, T5, 7, 8) on loops of nylon webbing and 1 SMC Taperlock (size 5) climbing NUT on a steel cable. All in excellent condition. I bought them new at REI, probably about 1979, and went to the local bouldering rocks to practice placing them for an afternoon. I probably didn't use all of them that day, so one or more may be completely unused, and even the used ones did nothing more than briefly hold my weight. I never used any of them after that. The painted ones have paint worn off the edges from banging against each other in a bag over the years.

Each Titon is single-slotted, and on a loop of webbing, included. The webbing is 20+ years old, but hasn't been stored in a smoggy environment or in the vicinity of gas or paint fumes, etc. Nonetheless, you'll have to inspect it and use your own judgment about trusting it in any given situation (i.e. for practice vs. a real climb where it might need to hold a fall).

Descriptions:

Item Made of
T3, T4 Titons (the two smallest) A heavy metal which even a very strong magnet does not attract. Painted.
T5 Titon A heavy metal (maybe not as heavy as the two smallest), which a very strong magnet attracts very strongly. Not painted.
7, 8 Titons (the two largest) A light metal (probably aluminum or aluminum alloy). No magnetic attraction. Not painted.
SMC Taperlock Number 5 Nut Looks like aluminum or aluminum alloy. Exhibits some magnetic attraction, but might be due entirely to the steel cable that runs through it.

Be careful rock climbing, and climb with, and learn from, people whose experience and ability you trust. If you are experienced, you know the dangers. If you are inexperienced, keep in mind that in addition to the obvious dangers of falling, if one of these devices pops out of its placement while your weight is on it and it hits you in the head, it can kill you. So... Be careful rock climbing, and climb with, and learn from, people whose experience and ability you trust!

CHANNING PEAKE art exhibit gallery POSTER 1971, artist-inscribed

Channing Peake poster Channing Peake poster Channing Peake poster Channing Peake poster Channing Peake poster

Likely price $85.

This is a 22" x 28" poster from a Channing Peake art exhibit, April 11 through May 8, 1971 at the Mary Moore Gallery which was at 2163 Avenida de la Playa in La Jolla, California. The art on the off-white, heavy-paper poster is a reproduction of a charcoal drawing of four bulls. It is inscribed by Channing Peake as described below.

Peake has been described as an abstract expressionist and friend of Picasso.

The poster was on my wall from about 1971 to 1973, but has been rolled in its tube for about the past 30 years. When first released from its tube, it holds its rolled shape with some determination, which is why in the photos there are large tomato sauce cans holding it down.

Generally the poster presents quite a good appearance. The edges are generally clean and straight. The accompanying images show the following:

This poster is artist-inscribed in a blank area below the middle of the left side:

"For, Steve
Channing"

I have every reason to be able to guarantee the authenticity of the signature because my aunt was the owner of the gallery that hosted the exhibit. At some time later, possibly as a Christmas present, she sent me two of these posters, one inscribed and one not. Thus, I am the "Steve" referred to on the poster. I think she also sent a similar duo of posters to other relatives, including her other nieces and nephews. I wasn't at the exhibit and didn't see the signing, but given the circumstances I have no reason to doubt the authenticity.

Monkey pod salad bowls

WOODEN BOWL SET for CHIPS, CRACKERS & DIP, NUTS, CHEESE, FRUIT SALAD

Likely price $1.75

This auction item is a Set Of CARVED WOODEN BOWLS and UTENSILS, which includes one serving dish, four bowls, and a serving fork and spoon. On the bottom of the serving dish is a worn gold sticker with black printing that says "Alii WOODS (Honolulu)". The wood is a lightweight hard wood with varied coloration and a prominent grain. The actual average color of the wood is a light brown, lighter than it appears to be in the photo, which developed dark and made the wood look something like walnut, which it isn't. It's more of a tan color.

The serving dish is 16¼" long by about 7¼" wide at its widest point. The individual bowls are from 6¼" to 6½" long and about 3 7/8" wide. The fork and spoon are about 10" long.

The set may be intended as a set of salad bowls. To me, they seem small for that purpose, though they probably would work. More practical uses where the bowls would make an attractive presentation:

The set is probably from the 1970's and was used at some point in that decade. It's been in storage the past 20 years. All the pieces have finish abrasions from use and from rubbing or bumping. Some of these appear in the photo. They don't make a terrible impression in the photo or in person, but the set isn't new, and it doesn't look new. Nonetheless, it is still a rather attractive set of wooden bowls.

Stuart McGuire shoes

Mens BLACK LEATHER LOAFERS SHOES Size 9 Stuart McGuire

Likely price $6.75

One pair of lightly used Stuart McGuire Mens DRESS LOAFERS. My best guess is that they are Size 9. See the actual measurements below. I found these in a box of clothes in an attic in 1986.

They have black leather uppers and synthetic soles, and are probably from the early 1980's. The heel cushions read, "STUART MCGUIRE CUSHIONED" (and the heels are indeed cushioned). Inside the uppers is this text: "690 21 3368 LEATHER UPPERS OTHER PARTS MAN-MADE". Underneath the wide tongue is an elastic band that grips your foot. The decoration on the top of the shoe is a dark-gold colored metal band across the tongue. Its gold coloration is no longer uniform.

The leather has creases that indicate the shoes have been worn, but not a lot. The interiors hardly show any wear. The same is true of the soles, which hardly have heel or toe wear, and still have the original surface texturing. Both soles have a couple of splashes of red paint, not visible from the side.

Sizing Notes

Interior length toe-to-heel Slightly over 10 ½ inches, maybe as much as 10 ¾ inches (difficult to measure). I wear a size 10, and when I once tried these on to see if they fit, they were painfully tight. On the basis of this, I suggest that if you wear a size 8½ to 9, these shoes will probably fit ok. If what you normally wear is any larger than that, they won't.
Width at interior instep about 2 5/8"
Exterior sole length 11 ¼ inches
Exterior sole width at widest part 3 5/8"

I'll be happy to answer questions if there's any additional sizing (or other) information I can provide. Hoping to find someone who can use these shoes. New shoes cost a fortune, and these don't.

Boy's belt

Boys BELT Black Leather 28 Inch 3/4 Inch, Chrome Buckle

Likely price $1.59

This is a used Boys Black Leather BELT, labeled "28 Smooth Grain". There are five holes, from about 26 inches to about 30 inches. It is 3/4" wide with a chrome buckle.

The belt is from the 1960's. The leather is shiny black. It has a bend (or warp) at the back that belts get from being worn. The buckle roughened the edges of the belt in the area of the holes (visible in the image). The chrome has worn off the top of the front of the buckle (visible in the image). The buckle is held in place by snaps, and can be replaced. The black paint has partially worn off the snap heads (visible in the image), but in all but the longest position they are covered by the end of the belt.

This belt saw much service due to a school dress code, but still has some use left in it.

(Ruler not included.)
